Erev Shabbos

Erev Shabbos.

I could write a book about Erev Shabbos!

The rushing, the stress, the go go go.

It can be a recipe for lots of things.

And then Shabbos can be hectic in its own way.

So for this specific woman…After a crazy Erev Shabbos, and running from one Shabbos meal, to a Bris, to another…

When she finally had the opportunity to reflect on what had happened…

She noticed lingering anxiety. And it wasn’t going anywhere.

The thoughts were racing, the panic was growing.

So she stops. And turns inwards.

Starting with a few breaths, she begins noticing what’s going on in her body.

She feels a panicky energy next to the left side of her body.

She asks this energy, this sensation…

In a gentle and compassionate way…

Why do you feel like that?

And she senses an answer.

Because the right side of my body doesn’t support me.

What does this mean?

BOOM. An image flashes up.

It’s a symbolic picture of a figure sitting and smoking a cigarette.

Similar to Cruella deVille. Surrounded by the smoke. Giving off an “I don’t care” vibe.

“Why don’t you care?” She asks this image.

“Why bother, it’s no use.” The figure tells her.

FLASH. A memory.

Her inner child.

Someone is angry with her. But what can she do. She can’t change.

Her inner child makes a decision at that moment.

“I can’t change, it’s no use trying. All my attempts are for nothing. So why even try in the first place.”

AHA. An insight.

She’d learned something as a child and was carrying it with her today.

It’s no use to even try. Change isn’t possible. Why bother?

After this gentle, and curious exploration,

Something inside begins to shift.

And her adult self emerges whispering reassuring words to her inner child.

“Now you’re in a safe place. You see how much you HAVE changed, and how the people around you are supportive of that.”

WOW. A turnaround.

The image of the cigarette lady, freezes, as if to say: “Hmmm, yes I can change”.

Relief. Clarity. Insight.

How did this happen?

How did she go from panic and anxiety… to having this breakthrough? To feeling…energized!

What is this process called?

This is what we call Focusing.

A gentle, curious and compassionate way to explore what’s really going on beneath our emotions.

Following the body’s wisdom we access insights for change, growth, and renewal.

We find answers and tune into unmet needs.

We uncover inner parts of ourselves that have been silenced, muted or afraid.

I’m honored to facilitate this Focusing journey for women I work with 1:1. To teach these concepts in my training program, and to share this with the world.

Giving women the gift of healing, insight and self-discovery. Through the profound power of connecting to their body’s wisdom.
