Permission to take care of yourself first

Here’s something I tell my clients:

If there’s no emergency or threat to life, go take care of yourself.

Make sure there are no knives accessible to little kids and nobody’s hurting each other. Beyond that? Everything else can wait.

I know things pile up. The dishes, the laundry, the mess, the emails.

But it’ll be easier to deal with the pileup when you’re regulated than to drudge through it when you’re depleted.

This requires a boundary. And boundaries can feel uncomfortable.

But really, a boundary is saying: I matter, and you still matter. You don’t matter less just because I matter.

I just need to take care of myself first in order to actually be present with you.

Recognizing that I can’t be the person I want to be when I’m running on empty.

Learn to prioritize yourself without apology. Take the space you need. The rest you need. The time you need.

Because you’re a Tzelem Elokim who inherently deserves self-dignity, self-respect, and self-esteem.

What can you do for yourself right now?

Supporting your sensitivity,
Rena
