Why you feel worse after deep work

You know that feeling?

You leave a session. You did deep work. You opened up something real.

And now you feel… messy. Activated. Like you dumped out a toy box and don’t know how to put everything back.

And you wonder: “Why do I feel worse after doing the work?”

Here’s what’s actually happening:

As soon as you make space for one feeling, your nervous system sees an opening. It says “oh good, you’re ready for this” and brings up more.

You can’t selectively open to just one emotion. When you start feeling, you open to feeling a lot of things.

It’s how healing works.

And – that doesn’t make it less overwhelming.

So what do you do when everything feels stirred up?

First – know that this is part of the process, not a problem with the process.

Second – find what Focusing calls “finding the right distance.” Not so far from your experience that you don’t feel anything. Not so close that you’re drowning in it.

There’s a sweet spot where you can be with what’s happening without being overwhelmed by it.

The work is about learning to be with activation when it comes. Because it will!

Where are you right now with whatever you’re working with? Too close? Too far? Or right where you need to be?

Supporting your wholeness,
Rena
