Why the somatic healing boom is both a blessing and a challenge for practitioners

Somatic healing has gained a lot of hype recently, and for good reason.

There’s growing understanding about how much we need to come into our bodies, use our bodies as sources of wisdom, guidance, and healing.

But… I’ve noticed people are taking this beautiful, nuanced work and turning it into… another thing to do.

Another checklist. Another set of exercises. Another way to “fix” themselves.

“Just tell me what to do, Rena. Give me the list of 100 embodiment practices and I’ll do them all.”

As practitioners, we’re uniquely positioned to either perpetuate this approach or offer something completely different.

The moment we turn embodiment into a to-do list, we’ve missed the point entirely.

Because each nervous system is attuned to different things. What feels safe and soothing for one client might make another feel agitated or overwhelmed (remember the beans?).

Our job isn’t to have the perfect toolkit. Our job is to help each client develop a relationship with their own inner world.

It’s about supporting them in being willing to step into the unknown of not knowing what they’ll find inside themselves at any given moment.

If we think we know what our clients are going to discover in their bodies, we’re in our heads, not meeting them in their embodied experience.

The popularity of somatic healing is beautiful. But let’s not lose the essence of what makes it transformative: the willingness to be present with what is, without an agenda to change it.

In B’Etzem, we focus on developing this capacity to be with clients without agenda – the foundation of all transformative somatic healing.

Only 15 days until B’Etzem Level 1 begins. Ready to move beyond technique-based practice to this deeper level of embodied presence?
