Embodiment is the feminine path to Menuchas Hanefesh

Someone asked me after Monday’s Soul Tilling class:

“I was working with the emotion of anger and feeling it through when resistance came up. What do I do then?”

Isn’t it amazing that we think we’re starting with one emotion?

We sit down, we press play, we begin to write. This is what I’m feeling. This is what I’m working with. And then something else shows up. In this case, resistance.

And the first instinct is to wonder what do I do with this?

Do I push past it?
Do I go around it?
Do I get back to the anger I came here to feel?

Ah…but!

The resistance is the work.

What you thought you were starting with (the anger) may well be real and significant. But the moment something else rises up, that something else becomes the primary thing. It has shown up for a reason. It has moved to the front of the room because it needs to be seen first.

Don’t push past it. Don’t try to get rid of it. Go right into it.

Stay with the resistance. Feel it. Get curious about it. Trust that by turning toward it you will make space to return to the anger deeper and more honestly than if you had forced your way through.

This is the beauty of this work. We think we’re starting with one thing. And then we realize that it’s actually about something else. Always another layer. Always a next step hiding inside what we thought was an obstacle.

And this is precisely what I mean when I say:

Embodiment is the feminine path to Menuchas Hanefesh.

Not pushing through. Not overriding. Not achieving peace by bypassing what’s hard or inconvenient or uncomfortable. But turning toward it with curiosity, with patience, and with the willingness to let what’s there be there. And discovering that the peace we’re looking for was never on the other side of the resistance.

It was inside it all along.
