The Wisdom of Going Slow

We live in a culture that’s obsessed with speed, and unfortunately, this has infected our therapeutic approaches too.

Quick fixes. Rapid transformation. Eight-week programs that promise to change lives.

But nervous systems operate on a completely different timeline.

Our (clients’) protective patterns didn’t develop overnight, and they won’t shift overnight either.

These patterns have often been decades in the making. They’re protective strategies their bodies developed to help them survive difficult circumstances.

They’re not surface-level habits they can simply decide to change. They’re deeply embedded in their neurology, their muscle memory, their cellular responses.

This is why rushing the process of nervous system healing often ends up reinforcing the very patterns we’re trying to help shift.

When we pressure clients to change quickly, they often end up in their sympathetic nervous system (fight/flight) trying to fix their nervous system dysregulation. They end up using force and effort to try to create ease and flow.

Real transformation happens in slowness. In spaciousness. In giving their systems time to feel safe enough to let down their guard.

It happens when clients can be patient with their body’s timeline instead of imposing their mind’s urgency.

As practitioners, one of our most important offerings is permission for clients to heal at their body’s pace rather than their mind’s pace.

Your clients’ nervous systems are incredibly intelligent, but they need safety to access that intelligence. And safety often requires slowing down.

In B’Etzem, we cultivate deep appreciation for the body’s natural timing while learning skills to support sustainable change.
