What can you do while staying yourself?
I’m creating a new term: your window of Menuchas Hanefesh.
It’s the range of what you can do while staying regulated, grounded, present. While still being you.
Not what someone else can do. Not what you “should” be able to do. What YOU can actually do.
For me, especially as someone who’s sensitive, deeply feeling, carries the weight of the world – my window looks different than yours.
When someone tells me “just do more chesed” from outside that window, I choke. I struggle to breathe. It’s overwhelming.
But when I can ask: “What’s within my window of menuchas hanefesh? What could I contribute while staying grounded?” – suddenly there are possibilities.
Maybe I stretch myself a little. Push the edge of the window. But I’m still inside it.
Because what happens when you push beyond your window is…
You do the chesed begrudgingly. Dragging your feet. Heart not in it. You’re in fight or flight just to make it happen.
You’re operating from pizur nefesh – scattered all over the place – instead of Menuchas Hanefesh.
So instead of doing less, you can learn to recognize what you can actually give while remaining a person.
What does your window of Menuchas Hanefesh look like?
Supporting your sensitivity,
Rena
