The freedom paradox of the self-employed woman

So many of us became self-employed so we could have ownership over our time. Ownership over our life. The ability to create our own schedule.

And on the one hand — how wonderful.

On the other hand, what happens for most of us, more often than not is that the very thing we set out to do for ourselves, so we could have more freedom and more time for ourselves, ends up going on the back burner. It gets harder and harder to schedule time for oneself within everything that’s going on.

A lot of us who become self-employed are earth types — deep feelers, deep thinkers, intense by nature. Part of why we needed to be our own bosses, in charge of our own time, is because we needed space for that rich inner world. But when we don’t give that inner world the space it needs, it shows up anyway — as chronic physical pain, chronic emotional pain, chronic relational pain.

And more often than not, our instinct is to go looking for tactics. Solutions. Ways to fix it.

Soul Tilling takes a different approach. It’s an hour once a week where, instead of trying to solve, you listen. You make space for whatever is going on inside. And a lot of these problems start to resolve on their own — because our bodies have a built-in wisdom. Sometimes the insight comes right there, in the room, and you take it with you.

I’ve also heard from a lot of self-employed women that they don’t want another in-person class to drive to. They’re craving something they can do from their own computer, at home. That’s exactly what Soul Tilling fills.

A scheduled time, once a week, where you’re guided through sensing into your inner world. Let’s clear out the cobwebs. Let’s realign.

Every week we meet live on Zoom — and the class itself is designed to send signals of safety to your nervous system by creating new experiences, together, in real time.

We move through a teaching rooted in the Jewish calendar, a short guided imagery, deep journaling you’ll never have to share, a somatic meditation, and a movement expression. Each element is doing something specific: bringing you out of the activated state and back into yourself.

This month we’re in Tammuz. We’ll be working with the element of water, the body part of the right hand, the sense of vision, and facing our suffering and exile — to reveal the hidden Redemption from within them.

Four weeks. One month. The power of the month to guide our reset.

Two Monday time slots to choose from:

Investment: $40 trial class | $100 for the full month

~60 minutes | Live on Zoom | Not recorded

This week’s book recommendation: If this email resonates with you, I recommend I Know I’m In There Somewhere by Helene Brenner. Brenner writes about the inner voice that gets buried under everyone else’s expectations, fears, and “shoulds” — and how to find your way back to it through learning to listen to what’s already there. A warm, practical guide to coming home to yourself. Order a copy here — this is an affiliate link which doesn’t cost you anything extra and helps support my work.
