Why “I’m okay” doesn’t work
When overwhelm shows up, it is not just a passing thought that you can easily change.
It’s your nervous system shifting into fight-or-flight mode. Your physiology actually changes, going into the activated, sympathetic state. This is the same state it goes into when it perceives any kind of danger.
And when your nervous system shifts into that state, it stays there. It doesn’t leave because you tell it to. It stays there until something gives it a genuine sense of safety, which then allows it to come back to regulation.
But if the threat is ongoing — like sirens in a city at war — your nervous system stays in that heightened state. It can’t come down, because the danger signal hasn’t resolved.
Overwhelm works the same way. When a woman is caught in overwhelm and her nervous system goes into fight-or-flight, she’ll stay there unless something brings her back to safety.
Not “I’m okay.”
Not “I can do this.”
Not “I’ve got this.”
Those don’t reach the alarm. It takes actual safety. And that’s a very different kind of work.
That’s exactly what Soul Tilling is.
Every week we meet live on Zoom — and the class itself is designed to send signals of safety to your nervous system by creating new experiences, together, in real time.
We move through a teaching rooted in the Jewish calendar, a short guided imagery, deep journaling you’ll never have to share, a somatic meditation, and a movement expression. Each element is doing something specific: bringing you out of the activated state and back into yourself.
This month we’re in Tammuz. We’ll be working with the element of water, the body part of the right hand, the sense of vision, and facing our suffering and exile — to reveal the hidden Redemption from within them.
Four weeks. One month. The power of the month to guide our reset.
Two Monday time slots to choose from:
Investment: $40 trial class | $100 for the full month
~60 minutes | Live on Zoom | Not recorded

This week’s book recommendation: If this email resonates with you, I recommend I Know I’m In There Somewhere by Helene Brenner. Brenner writes about the inner voice that gets buried under everyone else’s expectations, fears, and “shoulds” — and how to find your way back to it through learning to listen to what’s already there. A warm, practical guide to coming home to yourself. Order a copy here — this is an affiliate link which doesn’t cost you anything extra and helps support my work.
Supporting your sensitivity,
