What to do when feeling feels too scary
Yesterday I said the way out is through the feeling.
And also? Feeling can be scary.
Even now, after years of doing this work, sometimes when I sit down to be with whatever’s going on inside me, the first thing that comes up is fear. Fear of what I’m going to encounter in there.
This is the most human thing in the world. The same brain that creates symptoms to protect us from our emotions is the same brain that, years later, still doesn’t want us to go there. It doesn’t know we’re safe now. It’s just doing its job.
So the very first step — before anything else — is not to push past the fear. It’s to give space to the fear. To let yourself feel that. To acknowledge: yes, this is scary, and I’m here anyway.
Once I allow myself to feel the fear, I can go deeper into whatever else is going on inside.
The fear isn’t a wall. It’s actually the doorway. Tomorrow I’ll share what’s helped me most to walk through it.
B’Etzem Level 1 is where I teach practitioners how to hold this space — for themselves, and for others. Five Tuesdays, starting May 26. Early bird ends this Friday. renareiser.com/betzem.

This week’s book recommendation: If this email resonates with you, I recommend The Mindbody Prescription by Dr. John Sarno. Dr. Sarno explores the powerful connection between repressed emotions and physical symptoms — and how giving expression to what’s inside can be the path to real healing. It’s a read that genuinely changed my life. Order a copy here — this is an affiliate link which doesn’t cost you anything extra and helps support my work.
