Practice failing
As women, especially perfectionistic women, we have a hard time embracing doing something we think we’re going to fail at.
We either do things we’re really good at, or we avoid all the things we’re not good at.
Recently, I started learning to hang from rings we have installed in our ceiling. Working on my grip strength.
And I started off really terrible at it.
Sometimes I get disheartened and overwhelmed by how slow my progress is.
But it’s actually helping me embrace failure.
I have to tell myself: Just try for 20 seconds. That’s it. You can fail for 20 seconds.
Some days I meet my goal. Some days I can barely hang on for a couple seconds.
But every time I do that, I’m training my brain and my nervous system to handle failure.
When you can start to get more comfortable with the idea of failure, it’s a lot easier to accept those around you who are failing.
Like watching your husband fumble through tasks you could do waaay more efficiently.
When you’re practicing failure yourself, you stop demanding perfection from him.
Build your capacity to tolerate imperfection – in yourself, in your marriage, and with others.
What could you practice failing at?
Supporting your sensitivity,
Rena
